Mike Noell's US Navy experience provided him the inspiration for the gear BlackHawk now manufactures. While operating 60 klicks inside Northern Iraq, he had to hump a ton of gear by foot in an enemy minefield. The pack failed, dumping his gear into the mine-ridden ground. If I get out of this one alive, I will make this stuff the way it needs to be built so none of my buddies have to go through this, he remarked to a fellow operator. Upon entering the private sector, that's exactly what he did, making gear and packs in a garage, and growing ever since.

SureFire’s aluminum-body WeaponLights are machined from a high-strength aerospace-grade alloy, making them extremely resistant to damage from impact, crushing, or bending, and allowing them to be made as small and light as possible without sacrificing strength. Some flashlights are made of relatively cheap polymers (plastics) such as ABS. SureFire’s polymer WeaponLight and flashlight bodies are made of Nitrolon, a proprietary high-strength, non-conductive, impact-resistant, glass-filled polyamide nylon polymer. “Glass-filled” means that the polymer matrix has been mixed with fine glass fibers that add rigidity, abrasion resistance, and increased stability at higher temperatures.

The Swiss firm mb-microtec developed the technology to produce GTLS ( gaseous tritium light sources ) so small, they can be installed on the hands and dial of your wristwatch.
These light sources, marketed as «trigalight» or «mb-microtec illumination» are independent of a battery or any other source of outside energy, never need recharging or servicing and do not require the push of a button. They glow permanently and a 100 times brighter than anything comparable, for up to twenty years.
mb-microtec employs 40 people and is located in Niederwangen just outside Bern in Switzerland. Self luminating light Sources for EXIT signs in hotel corridors or on airplanes to lead people to safety in an emergency with power failure, were some of the early and more traditional applications of this technology.
Decades of research in the field of radio luminescence preceded the development and commercial use of mb-microtec «trigalight» in watches. «trigalight» are tiny glass vials, coated on the inside with a phosphorescent material and subsequently filled with a minute amounts of tritium gas. Electrons emitted from the gas excite the material to give of a permanent cold Light.
Depending on the type of phosphorescent material used, «trigalight» can be made to give off light in different colours. Green is the preferred colour because the human eye perceives it to be the brightest. Orange is also available and only slightly less bright. Blue is an option as well but primarily used in watches for divers because under water, blue remains visible at up to 60m / 187 feet in depth, longer or deeper than any other colour.
The serial production of «trigalight» requires precision technology. With a high tech laser, specifically developed for this purpose by mb-microtec, individual light sources are cut and sealed airtight so no gas ever escapes. After continuously improving the production process mb-microtec today manufactures «trigalight» which only measure 0.5mm in diameter and as little as 1.2 mm in length. Unmatched in either size (small) or quality (brightness and longevity) mb-microtecs «trigalight» are state of the art and without equal in the marketplace.

UTAG® was initially designed with motorcyclists in mind but is for anyone who considers their personal safety, or the safety of family or friends, as important.
Motorcyclists are very aware that with the joys of biking come unavoidable risks and that accidents can happen. Some already carry contact information in case of emergency but it is difficult to make this visible and accessible and it can be overlooked.
The creator of UTAG® wanted a product that could easily be seen and identified as containing emergency information and could be worn in a visible place. It needed to carry all the information a rider felt was necessary to help in an emergency situation.
It had to give every rider the best possible chance of communicating with the emergency services, letting them know who to contact on their behalf and pass on any medical information they wanted to make available.
